Wow, I went to a lot of trouble to get my hands on this mix! I tried to find it online, but the best I could find was an unmixed compilation of the tracks from this mix. So I located a copy of the original mixed CD on Amazon and ordered it. Why? This is the first ever drum n’ bass mix I ever heard, back in 1996. I found my original copy of the mix at the bottom of a crate of CD’s for sale on St. Mark’s place, in NYC’s East Village. Andy C was then, and still is, one of the great legends of this style and this mix is chock full of Suburban Base hits from the original era of “jump up.”
Expect some crazy mashed amen breaks and lots of hiphop samples from Wu Tang and Dr. Dre. When I first heard it, this mix blew my mind with a sound I’d never heard before – the spartan soundscapes and rolling basslines are the soundtrack to desolate urban landscapes and are like a hiphop-inflected version of the sparse Sheffield and Detroit techno of the late 80’s / early 90’s. Roll on!

Great upload… sounds all the better knowing what this mix means to Catnap. I have never heard the track “A New Dawn” – great use of the Nina Simone lyric from “Feeling Good”. Zinc’s P-funk era is timeless, can’t hear that tune enough.
