we brought rennie to ontario in 2002 and he is without question in my top ten for coolest cats ever met. it was a big show for us, my whole family was there dancing up a storm, ha my dad wore his vintage 1970s disco suit for the occasion and last minute added a sweet afro wig to make the funk image complete. he came the gig 2 hours early to hear Spence play his sax and wax performance and had cocktails with my parents throughout. he was so damn polite and nice i began to wonder if i maybe picked up the wrong person from the airport (it wouldn’t be the first time but that’s a whole other story), but when it was his turn to hit the decks and the white labels started flowing out of his bag, monster tune, after monster tune, my doubts fizzled away in a flurry of dancing.
lol, the next morning i had maybe slept 2 hours when my phone rings and its rennie on the other end. he started singing & talking at the same time, as if he knew my head was pounding in pain, he scolded me for being tardy in just about the most digustingly nicest way i have ever been scolded in my life. “erik, its almost 1130 and we have to be at the airport by 1….”
any other dj would have been losing it on me, but rennie i guess knew i wouldn’t let him down and i didn’t. had to break several traffic laws but what can you do?
