SLIM aka Spence :: HOT SHIT :: Side A :: 1996
Description
This is that one mixtape that changed my life forever. 1996. It somehow found its way into my car stereo in Victoria, BC while I was living there. I can remember cruising with my buddy Shaver, big bats of beatutiful west coast buds burning, when we put this tape in wondering what the hell it was. When the breakbeats started pounding, we both looked at each other in shock. OH MY GOD.
Sort the rest out for yourselves. ;)

Mix notes quoting Spence from his website:
“This was recorded in Montreal in July of 1996.
Side A was recorded as a demo for the Dose promoters in Toronto who were throwing the biggest and baddest parties in Canada at the time. I don’t know if it ever got to them cuz they never called me but it did manage to launch a couple crazy years of rave touring for me. Everywhere that tape went, I soon followed. A lot of Vancouver people have told me that “Hot Shit” was their first tape or that it got them into mixing. Its sort of a Zeitgeist piece of mixing for the mid ‘90s warehouse party / “West Coast Breaks” thing. People really loved the “Hip-Hop-Tic-Tac-Tician” scratch over Rennie Pilgrem’s old skool cut at the end of the tape…I gotta say though that I borrowed that breakdown scratch from Maestro Fresh Wes’ Dj; LTD.”

sick mix. by roller, June 15, 2007 08:37
hope you enjoyed it, that mix infected so many people its ridiculous. It took him to so many cities in Canada and the US, yet the promoters in Ontario he made it for never booked him even once. Politics. When he finally did get to play Ontario for another outfit he came on after Icey and scratched the living hell out his last record before giving it back to him and then proceeded to drop some bad ass breaks and the crowd went ballistic. lol. I guess maybe he shouldn’t have schooled Icey so badly, because he didn’t get booked again until i started bringing him.
Planet X is coming.
