J Dilla’s mini-masterpiece Donuts (Stones Throw) was released in February 7th, 2006 (J Dilla’s 32nd birthday). He would depart this world for the next later that year in August. Dilla is the soul of hip-hop. After you uncover the first layers of most of the hip-hop and modern R&B joints you love, you will find him.

I wore this album out when I got my promo copy from Score Press. It is deep crate digging and full of gems that show Dilla’s eclectic tastes. 10cc turned into hip-hop gold? Sho’nuff. It took me some time to find them all, so here are the tunes lifted and reprocessed by the man. They are in the same order of Donuts album. Remember the man and his music. If you want to keep his memory alive, help his mother aka Ma Dukes fight the a-holes who are preventing his music to shine and honor his wishes.
