Mix of the Week - Week 16. Jan '10

Mix of the Week - Week 16. Jan '10

OK so after a long break MOTW is back and I have the privlege of making the first selection, I’ll try an make it a good ’un.
I have chosen an old mix, one that I often find myself coming back to.

http://www.pearsontowers.com/mixes/den-sorte-skole-the-blackschool-mixtape-made-from-250-records-on-6-turntables

The description on PT is as follows:
“We are Den Sorte Skole (The Black School) from Copenhagen Denmark. The Mixtape is made on 6 turntables, 3 mixers by 3 dj’s and more than 250 soundpieces. It sounds like nothing else – heavy, weird and original”
They pretty much sum up the mix with “…heavy, weird and original”

Samples include Portishead, DJ Shadow, Necro, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Jonny Cash, Dizzee, Prodigy and loads of artists I have never heard of – mainly because they are so random with lots of foreign tracks. It covers everything from hip-hop, DnB and dubstep.

They also have a link to their website – however I just checked it out and it just seems to direct you to myspace, shame as the website was pretty smart with some split screen videos etc.

We need your help!
To keep MOTW alive we need lots of activity. The download log is at 150, I wanna get this up by at least another 100 with tons of comments.

OK I don’t know if I’m just being thick – I think I probably am, but I can’t find anyway in which to send a message to tag someone!!
Anyway I wanna to tag NoerthernSoul – you’re up.

He hasn’t been a member of Pearson Towers long but has contributed a lot and has had loads of activity – also checkout his blog, very eclectic.

If anyone else who’s not not as think as me reads this and knows how to send a message can you please give NorthernSoul a nudge for me? Much appreciated.

Right, one choice really Greg Wilson’s Essential Mix, upped by Bronte here-

It’s a fantastic mix of disco and re-editness and has been on my mp3 for over a year which is a record…

""…Original DJ, mix pioneer and Hacienda resident Greg Wilson dropped by for the most overdue of overdue Essential Mix debuts in January, and served up a sublime mix of soul, funk, disco and early house music…"

“…A pioneer in the disc jockey business, Wilson was the first person ever to mix two records on British television. But more people nowadays know him for his prowess at the editing desk. Ever since he took back up the job of rocking dance floors, audiences have been treated to Wilson’s exclusive cut-ups via his laptop and reel-to-reel player”

“…Cut and paste, snip and shape, the original master of re-edits is back. A pivotal force in the electro-funk underground and soul food for any DJ, Greg Wilson’s pioneering approach proves as masterful now as it was then. Soul-boy funky, to achingly chunky…”

“The Original Master Of Re-Edits” Norman Jay M.B.E.

“Taught Me To Scratch” Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim)

“Greg is a cornerstone of UK dance music” Tom Findlay (Groove Armada)

Start a new, dedicated thread please mate.

I’d have thought coming from as tightly run ship as tmb you’d have known to do this without thinking ;-)
