Quality Matters?Hello I’ve recently joined up here and think I’ve got a couple of things I can add to the huge list of mixes round here. What are people’s thoughts on quality though? Some of the radio shows I have were recorded in mono so I could fit them onto one minidisc. Another mix I have was originally recorded onto tape so the quality isn’t marvellous to be honest. And would a bitrate of 128kbps be acceptable? I’ve got some David Holmes, Andrew Wetherall and DJ Yoda (which I’m 99.99999999% certain you’ve never heard before) shows to contribute in case you’re wondering…. Cheers! |

Re: Quality Matters?Go for it pasty. 128’s good enough. That’s all I use for my mixes. Looking forward to some new Yoda. Gee – good to see you got your avatar sorted out. |

Re: Quality Matters? Thanks for the reply and your thoughts! The David Holmes mix is the live mix from Notting Hill that went out on the Breezeblock in 2000 (I think). I’m particularly fond of it as I was present at the time it was recorded. Mind you, after thinking I’ve been sitting on a bit of a rarity all these years I’ve noticed that it’s been available online in various places! I’ll still put it up though as I haven’t seen it on here so far. Probably won’t be able to get it up until the weekend I’m afraid. |

Re: Quality Matters?Yeah, if it’s an old set off tape or something then the nostalgic qualities normally way outweigh any sound quality issues. But then again, I’ve not got a great ear for it usually listen happily without noticing a thing until I hear one after another. And besides, I always get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I listen to something that has a break after 30/45 minutes :-) Problems with the site? Post it in the forums. |

Re: Quality Matters?
Heh, that’s exactly what I used to do. There are some awesome old recordings of Krafty Kuts before he hit the big time hosting a show that used to run at something like 2-4AM on a local station in Brighton which I recorded when I was living there in my student days. Anyone who hasn’t heard them should definitely go check them out. Problems with the site? Post it in the forums. |

Re: Quality Matters?I’m definately a fan of the tape hiss. I don’t mind 128’s, it starts to get a bit nasty below that but if it was something I was interested in then I’d still download it. I don’t want to live with a herd of twats that make me wear clothes and eat with knife and fork |
