OK, so here it is, the new site.

While it may look largely the same on the surface it’s had a complete rewrite underneath and other than clearing up all the little annoyances it’s now in a great state to build on and improve.

The old site was based on this system called Drupal and while that’s a great piece of work, it just wasn’t meant to do what I was trying to do with it. Over the last few months I’ve got pretty nifty with this other framework, Rails and so rewrote it in that.

So what do we have?

Well, I think maybe about 80% of the old site’s functionality has been recreated, except they’re, well, better designed and easier / nicer to use now. At the core there’s the mix database of course, which is pretty much identical – mixes, comments, ratings, download tracking, etc. Categorisation’s been swapped for tagging which will be a bit more flexible for us.

A few things are gone too. The blogs were never used so I didn’t bother with them, as have the user galleries. It’s much easier for me to implement galleries in other parts of the site so I plan to provide places for you to upload pix in more appropriate places.

What the future holds

First on the list is ‘The Collections’, which I gave up on making before. In a few weeks I hope to have every single Essential Mix and a good wedge of Solid Steel available which I’ll offer for download in return for people just interacting on the site – commenting, reviewing, uploading new sets, etc.

Another thing I need to do (which I might just slip in before the collections) is notifications, that way you’ll be able to get daily emails telling you about what’s been uploaded in the previous 24 hours.

If you run into any problems…
In most situations I should be made aware of it by an automated mail, but hopefully you shouldn’t have any. The only problem I know of so far is to do with avatars. I haven’t worked it out but in certain situations the site barfs when you try to update your avatar.

Update: think I’ve fixed that now, and that the problem was a bit more than just avatars.

Anyway, if there are problems please bear with me while I sort them out, though I’m pretty confident there shouldn’t be any big issues.

Cheers,

Jon

thanks for the linkage dude, i haven’t promoted or spammed my blog at all and even left it unlisted in the blog directory. i will send you my “secret link” to another rollers lounge that will hopefully be a vpn for those who know and want to share quality music in a safe, virus free environment. i am learning as i go so it still may take awhile. lol.

i didn’t want a blog but with my homebase breaks forum being overrun by bots and going down at random, i got fed up with posting music there and closed the doors on the original lounge.

thankfully you are still moving forward with your site and its nice to know that there are people out there that share music for the sake of knowledge and sharing bits of your life with the entire world.

your site has come a long way since it started and i have tons of respect for everything you have done so far and looking forward to even more in the future.

peace.

i desperately want the latest coldcut & dj moneyshot solid steel show. newmixes.com had it listed but no links worked at all yesterday i wager they blew up their bandwidth for the month.

the mixing bowl? great place for tunes, but a little whack with the power trippin and rules no? i registered there and then cancelled the same day because they won’t let you share if your a newbie? later!

blentwell is working again? the last few times i tried to go there it was messed up and confused. or maybe i was who knows, who knows…

The site wouldn’t be anything without it’s users and you, bronte and ryan are like my oldest most faithful members. The last few months has brought a good few new regulars though which is cool so hopefully things are on the up.

Re: that Solid Steel, if you haven’t got it yet I grabbed a copy from tmb and upped it here. Talking about mixing bowl, lol, yeah, quite a few rules but I guess you have to be like that when you’re a p2p site and you get big. No sharing while you’re new is a bit of a weird one though lol, not sure about the logic behind that!

Re: blentwell, haven’t visited much for a while but it looks all go there atm…..

Like the new site? Come tell me what you think on my guestbook, having problems? Check out the help page.

I hadn’t been on th site for a while due to my pc being goosed but i’m glad i returned, the site is still easy to use and i’ve felt compelled to post a mix up which i’ve never done before.
Keep on keeping on!
